The Kensington Post is an independent news and information site for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We report what the public record shows and keep the information residents look up accurate and easy to find.
The borough
Kensington and South Kensington, Chelsea and Knightsbridge, Brompton and West Brompton, Earl’s Court, Holland Park, West Kensington, Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove, World’s End, and North Kensington and Golborne at the northern end. It is a small borough with sharp differences inside it, in wealth, in housing and in what people need from the council, and we write about those parts as they are rather than treating the whole borough as one place.
What we cover
The council’s planning register is unusually important here, because in a borough this heavily conserved almost any change to a building needs permission, and basement and listed-building applications are argued out on paper long before anything happens on the street. Alongside planning we work from the council’s committee papers and decisions, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, and company filings in The Gazette. We also keep reference pages on parking zones and permits, bins and council tax bands, checked against what the council itself publishes.
How we report
Every fact is tied to a named source and linked, so you can check the original rather than trust us. Where a record is unclear we say it is unclear. We write in plain British English, we do not publish press releases as though they were reporting, and we do not use other outlets’ photographs. On anything sensitive we stay with what the documents establish and we do not speculate.
Corrections and tips
If we have made a mistake, email hello@thekensingtonpost.co.uk and we will correct it and note the correction on the page. The same address takes tips about a planning application, a closure, an opening or an event worth listing. Tips are treated in confidence.
